Reverend Paul R Smith was well known in West Seattle for his time as the head Pastor at West Side Presbyterian Church. Anyone that knew him probably heard stories about his family’s cabin in the Black Hills of South Dakota or his time growing up in Kadoka, South Dakota (population 543 at the last census)

What you might not have known, is that Paul was an incredible photographer as well. Shortly before Paul passed away in July of 2020, he asked his wife Carren who would take care of the 5000+ images that he had taken over the years. You see, Paul meticulously documented his adult life thru the lens of a Konica Autoreflex T, a Nikon N80, and Eventually a Nikon D70. Paul originally shot on 35mm Kodachrome until it eventually was discontinued. He then shot on 35mm Kodak film until he eventually purchased the digital Nikon D70.

I’m Paul’s Son-in-law. I’m creating this site to honor his memory and to ensure the world can see the incredible images he captured over a lifetime of photography. You see, I’m also a passionate photographer and I failed to understand how good my father-in-law was as an artist. While he was alive, he taught me tons about living a good life and being a good man. Now that he is gone, he is teaching me even more as I digitally scan one Kodachrome slide at a time to share with you. I hope you come to appreciate Paul and his art as much as I have. This is going to be a huge project that may take me years, so check back often to see the progress.
